Karen Roberts, CLU, ChFC, CDFA-  Member of Gold Coast Chapter

We asked her a few questions to get the interview started.

What do you want to help people accomplish financially?

“My goal is to educate women about money so they can have a better relationship with money.  So many women just do not understand how money works and what it means.”

What sets you apart?

“I have a saying…’Not all of my friends are clients, but all of my clients are friends.’  That is how I do business.”

What unique awards or honors have you achieved?

“My most amazing moment was ringing the opening bell of the NYSE as President of WIFS! And, in 2015 I won the Pro Bono award from Financial Planning Magazine for an education program that I created for single mothers and girls aging out of foster care.”

Background: Karen is the owner of The Emerald Financial Group. A firm that specializes in helping women navigate finances and live the life of their dreams.   She’s a 30-year veteran of financial services. She holds a degree in Economics from California State University, Northridge and earned and maintains three industry designations: Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU®), Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®) and Certified Divorce Financial Analyst™, (CDFA™).

Karen is very active in the community as a member of Women’s Referral Network, The Deerfield Beach Chamber of Commerce, Toastmasters – Boca Noon Toastmasters Club as well as WIFS Gold Coast.  She is a trustee for the Jewish Women’s Foundation of Broward County and chair the grant committee.

Karen and her husband Jim have raised amazing children AJ, Zach and Jena, Alex and Adam.  And now are proud grandparents to two baby girls as well!

Fun Facts:  

Did you know?Karen lived in Hawaii for 3 years, which is where she started in the business. And she proudly states, “I jumped out of an airplane for my 35 birthday!”

What is your all-time favorite thing to eat, calories don’t count? “My all-time favorite thing to eat…Food in general, but if I have to narrow it down, then steak!  Any kind, preferably cold for breakfast.”

You’re stranded on a deserted island; what 3 things must you have with you?  “My husband, I know that’s corny but I would need someone to talk to, a chef because I cannot kill anything and then eat it, I would need someone to do that for me – Face Time so I could keep in touch with my kids and grand kids, because without them life just isn’t worth it.”

You have an opportunity to go on an all-expense paid trip, where are you going? “Israel, that was easy…  I have never been but will get there hopefully soon.”
